Lucinda Williams, Glen Campbell - Gentle on my Mind

Gentle on My Mind by Lucinda Williams on Grooveshark

Here's an older version that's good. I like Williams's better.

Bob Dylan - If Not For You

If Not for You by Bob Dylan on Grooveshark
It sounds like the kind of thing anybody should be able to write. But we don't.

My Morning Jacket - True Love Ways

This is a little different, but I couldn't help myself (I got over the nasal part of Jim James's voice a long time ago). It's a cover of a Buddy Holly song.

Feist - How Come You Never Go There (live on Letterman)

Great performance. Awesome horn section that didn't really come through in the studio version.

The Cars vs. Weezer

You Might Think by The Cars on Grooveshark

Eventually, Weezer had to cover a Cars song.

You Might Think by Weezer on Grooveshark

Why? Because Ric Ocasek produced Weezer's first album. Finding that out changed the way I hear the Blue album, too, because I found myself listening for The Cars in it. And there are some cues in there that either Ocasek was drawing on previous experience or Weezer was looking to The Cars (or both) when they produced the blue album.

The Cars' version is still way better, but it's kind of a cool tribute. Unfortunately, Rivers hasn't been able to sound like he's trying hard for a very long time. Which isn't to say he hasn't made any cool songs. They're just not cool, sincere-sounding songs.
